A Glamour-Filled Guide to Cosmetics, Fashion and the Essence of Being a Lady-
August 27th, 2009CorrespondenceSo you’ve decided to break out your fancy stationary and write a thank you note. It’s time you thanked your friend Stacey and her husband, Todd, for the lovely candlesticks given to you for you last birthday.

But, when addressing this note, whose name goes first on the card?
For a casual note with first names being used, the woman’s name comes first. Though, when using formal titles such as Dr. or Reverend, then the person with the title comes first, man or woman.

July 10th, 2009Correspondence, Etiquette LessonAs we all know, I am a proponent of timely thank you notes. I not only enjoy receiving a thank you card, but I love writing them. A thank you note should always include a description of the gift as well as one’s true sentiments concerning how much one appreciates the present.
But what if the gift is cash?
I loathe talking about money. I find it tacky and tasteless and it never makes for decent conversation.
Even so, thank you notes for cash gifts are the same as for any gift. Let the gift-giver know how much the gift is appreciated. Tell the giver for what purpose you will use the money. If you’re not sure, then tell them that you’re saving up for college, a trip, a new appliance, or other future event or item. It’s always nice to end the note by thanking them for their thoughtfulness and generosity, too.
